Frequently Asked Questions about GoGas

Frequently Asked Questions about GoGas

Frequently Asked Questions about GoGas

1. What is a GoGas cylinder?

GoGas is a new type of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder that Coral Gas has made available on the Greek market. It is light-weight and easy to use, with a modern design and greater (triple) safety.

GoGas comes in a metal LPG cylinder designed and made to the most stringent European standards of high-grade steel and strengthened with an external fibreglass matrix. The cylinder is covered on the outside by a high-quality plastic casing.

It is fitted with a specially designed “one-click” valve that can easily be attached to all LPG devices and appliances.

2. What is the GoGas cylinder’s “triple safety”?

The new GoGas LPG cylinder offers consumers additional safety compared to conventional metal cylinders. Specifically, it features:

A FLV system
The cylinder features a flow limiter valve (FLV) system. In the event there is an extensive leak into the LPG network after the valve, the FLV system is automatically activated and limits the gas flow to a very low, safe level. Coral Gas is the first and only company to add the FLV system to valves on all cylinders it distributes on the Greek market (used on both GoGas and conventional metal cylinders).

A PRV system
The cylinder is equipped with a pressure release valve (PRV) system. The PRV system is automatically activated if there is an excessive increase in pressure within the cylinder, releasing LPG into the air and safeguarding the integrity of the interior metal cylinder.

A GFRM cylinder
Inside the GoGas outer plastic casing, there is a metal LPG cylinder designed and made to the most stringent European standards of high-grade steel and strengthened with an external fibreglass matrix. This means the cylinder is very light-weight compared to the conventional gas cylinders, while ensuring the high strength required for LPG storage.

Each GoGas LPG cylinder has been checked against the strictest European standards and is certified by an external quality certification body for its suitability for use with LPG.

3. What is the difference between the GoGas cylinder and the conventional cylinder?

The Coral Gas GoGas cylinder is lighter (50% lighter than the conventional 10 kg metal cylinder); it has a modern appearance and offers triple safety:

  • FLV system (Coral Gas is the only company in Greece that has fitted all of its cylinders with this type of valve)
  • PRV system
  • GFRM cylinder
It has a special valve that allows you to connect to LPG devices and appliances quickly and easily with one click, without requiring particular strength or special tools or gaskets.

The GoGas cylinder is specially designed so that with the appropriate attachments (regulator or adaptor), you can connect and supply all household LPG appliances both indoors and outdoors.

Additionally, the GoGas cylinder has cooking and heating accessories that are specially designed for it and made to high specifications with quality materials. Some of these devices have received international awards for their modern design.

4. How much does the GoGas cylinder weigh? Does it come in other sizes?

When full, the GoGas cylinder can supply appliances for several hours. Its duration depends on the type and size of LPG devices or appliances being used. For example, you can use one GoGas cylinder to cook or grill on the special Smart Grill attachment for more than 17 consecutive hours.

The product bottled in the GoGas cylinder is a commercial mix of liquefied gases (80% butane and 20% propane) and is distributed on the market by Greek refineries. It is already available in conventional cylinders of 10 kg.

When full, the GoGas cylinder contains 5 kg of LPG and can supply appliances for several hours. Its duration depends on the type and size of LPG devices or appliances being used. For example you can use one GoGas cylinder to cook or grill on the special Smart Grill attachment for more than 17 hours.

5. How do you connect the GoGas cylinder? What exactly is “one click”?

GoGas is supplied with a special bayonet-mount valve that connects to the appliance through the regulator or adaptor quickly and easily, without requiring particular force or special tools.

To connect it, you just place the connection attachment (regulator or adaptor) on top of the valve and press gently until you hear it click (“one click”).

To open the LPG supply, you have to turn the switch on the connection attachment (regulator or adaptor) to the “open” position (red indicator facing up). After each use of the LPG device, it is best for safety reasons to turn off the supply by turning the switch to the “closed” position (green indicator facing up).

To disconnect the GoGas cylinder, you must first be sure the switch on the connection attachment (regulator or adaptor) is in the “closed” position (red indicator facing up). This will effectively shut off the gas supply. By pressing the same switch inwards, the device is automatically disconnected. The attachment cannot be removed if the switch is not in the “closed” position.

6. Do I need a pressure regulator to connect the GoGas cylinder?

The way the GoGas cylinder is connected depends on the device or appliance it is attached to. If you want to connect GoGas to your device or appliance with a flexible tube (rubber), you will have to use a pressure regulator. Otherwise, if you want to connect the burner on your device directly to GoGas (such as the Smart Grill and Garden Grill attachments), then you need a special adaptor for the connection.

You can obtain the special pressure regulator or adaptor wherever GoGas LPG cylinders are sold.

Note: The purpose of the pressure regulator is to reduce the pressure of the liquefied petroleum gas from the high level (about 4-8 bar) inside the cylinder to the pressure needed so the burner on the gas device or appliance can function properly.

7. Where can I find the new GoGas cylinder and how do I buy one?

To obtain a GoGas cylinder, you will have to go to a Shell, Avin or Cyclon petrol station or to a Coral Gas outlet selling LPG cylinders.

8. I have an LPG appliance that operates with the conventional 10 kg gas cylinder. Can I use the GoGas cylinder? What do I have to do?

You can connect any of your LPG-powered household appliances to the GoGas LPG cylinder.

If you are already using gas from a 10 kg cylinder and you would like to replace it with GoGas, you will have to disconnect the existing cylinder from the appliance and connect the GoGas cylinder. In order to connect the GoGas cylinder, you will have to obtain the special connection attachment from wherever GoGas cylinders are sold. The attachment will either be a pressure regulator (if the appliance is connected via rubber tube), or an adaptor (if the burner of the device is connected directly to the cylinder). This special connection attachment must be placed at the point where the device or appliance attaches to the cylinder.

9. Can I refill the GoGas cylinder at an autogas station?

No LPG cylinder should be refilled at an autogas station. In addition to being illegal, this practice also places your safety at grave risk.

All cylinders must be refilled with liquefied petroleum gas at legal bottling facilities where all required controls are in place to ensure that the cylinders they distribute on the market are properly filled, have no leaks and are suitable for use.

10. Can I have the GoGas cylinder delivered to my home?

GoGas cylinders are available at most petrol stations affiliated with Shell, Avin or Cyclon throughout Greece. These petrol stations operate all year round and are at your disposal.

11. What is a refundable deposit?

The first time you obtain a new GoGas cylinder, you will have to pay a refundable deposit that allows you to use the cylinder as long as you want. When you pay the refundable deposit, you must also get a special coupon that accompanies it. Keep this in a safe place. Any time you wish to stop using the GoGas cylinder, you may return it along with the coupon to anywhere GoGas cylinders are sold, where you will receive the full amount written on the refundable deposit coupon.

Visit the Shell, Avin or Cyclon petrol stations that sell GoGas cylinders or the Coral Gas website to learn more about the many special offers available on our new products.

12. What can I use the GoGas cylinder for?

You can use it with any device or appliance that operates with liquefied petroleum gas. This means that by buying the appropriate device or appliance, you can use it to cook or grill, or heat or light a particular space.

13. What appliances can I connect to the GoGas cylinder?

The new GoGas cylinder can be connected to any domestic appliance that runs on liquid petroleum gas.

14. I already use LPG and I have the appropriate appliances. How can I connect them to the GoGas cylinder?

You will have to obtain a special connection attachment from wherever GoGas cylinders are sold. The attachment will either be a pressure regulator (if the appliance is connected via rubber tube), or an adaptor (if the burner of the device is connected directly to the cylinder). This special connection attachment must be placed at the point where the device or appliance attaches to the cylinder.

15. Will the GoGas cylinder fit in my BBQ grill cabinet?

Most BBQ grills have a special cabinet at the bottom for the LPG cylinder. However, the conventional gas cylinders available on the Greek market are slightly taller and do not fit in this space on most BBQ grills. As a result, consumers must keep the gas cylinder outside the grills, compromising the appliance’s portability and convenience. The new GoGas cylinder is shorter than conventional cylinders, so it fits in the special cabinet of almost all BBQ grills.

16. I use a 3 kg cylinder and have the appropriate devices. Can I connect the devices I have to a GoGas cylinder?

To connect the device you have been using so far with the 3 kg cylinder, you will have to obtain the special adaptor that is required to connect your device to the GoGas cylinder valve. These adaptors are available wherever GoGas cylinders are sold.

17. I want to return the 3 kg or 2 kg cylinder I have. How can I do that?

The 3 kg cylinders available on the Greek market have a “Camping” type valve which, although it meets all legal requirements, it is Coral Gas’ opinion that it does not provide consumers with the maximum required level of safety. For this reason, Coral Gas has decided to withdraw from the Greek market all 3 kg cylinders it has sold from time to time and to replace them with the new GoGas cylinders. The new GoGas cylinders provide consumers with the highest level of safety, while they also have a modern design and a special valve for a “one-click” connection.

To connect the device you have been using so far with the 3 kg cylinder, you will have to obtain the special adaptor from wherever GoGas cylinders are sold.

Could it also be time to change your device?  If so, Coral Gas is introducing the Smart Grill attachment for the first time on the Greek market. The Smart Grill is specially designed and made for use with the GoGas cylinder. The Smart Grill attachment can be used just like the burner on the cooker you are used to, but also has a special plate that can be used as a grill for convenient and quick cooking.

18. Does the GoGas cylinder have its own specialised devices?

The GoGas cylinder is sold on the Greek market with a number of specialised LPG-powered devices that work with the GoGas cylinder. These devices are specially designed to meet the highest European standards and are made with top-quality materials. The following devices are available:

Smart Grill
This device is attached to the top part of the GoGas cylinder and allows you to cook (with a burner and small grate) or grill (with a special plate). It is made of stainless steel and is light and portable, so it is ideal for cooking both at home and outdoors. The flame strength on the GoGas BBQ Smart Grill is 2.5 kW (177 g/h).

Garden Grill
This is really 2 devices in 1. It consists of a Smart Grill attachment that allows you to transport it for use anywhere. The special stainless steel base in which the Smart Grill is placed converts it to a fixed cooker. You can cook on the device’s burner with a special grate, or use the large plate as a BBQ for grilling.

Smart Thermo
This device is a gas heater which has been designed to work with a GoGas cylinder. The size of the device together with the GoGas cylinder allows you to easily move it so you can heat up a space with greater savings. The Smart Thermo device folds up so you can store it when not in use, even in a small storage space. This allows you to easily transport it to other locations, such as your holiday home.

19. How can I tell if the GoGas cylinder I got is authentic?

To make sure its customers obtain LPG cylinders that have been checked and filled with the right product and quantity, Coral Gas seals all LPG cylinders with a special safety film that bears its logo and an iridescent hologram.

20. Does the GoGas cylinder have an expiry date?

Liquefied petroleum gas does not have an expiry date. That means that any LPG cylinder can remain in storage for a long period of time. Nevertheless, LPG cylinders must be stored upright, in outdoor and well-ventilated spaces. Never store LPG cylinders in basement areas.

21. What should I be careful with when using the GoGas cylinder?

Just as with any product, you should always follow the safety instructions that come with the LPG cylinder. Particularly with the GoGas cylinder, you should never tamper with (gouge, cut or prick) the plastic casing or valve on the top. Although the interior metal cylinder is very resilient, the outer plastic casing is not made to withstand a fall. Therefore, you should never drop the GoGas cylinder from any height. The GoGas LPG cylinder should always be used in the upright position and should not be moved when the attached device is lit.

22. How is a GoGas cylinder transported?

The new GoGas LPG cylinder is the ideal size for easy transport. It must always be transported in the upright position and never on its side. Before transporting it, the cylinder must either be removed from the appliance it is attached to, or you must make sure the switch on the connection attachment (regulator or adaptor) is closed (the green indicator must be facing up). You should never transport the GoGas cylinder when the gas appliance is in use.

23. How should a GoGas cylinder be stored?

When the LPG cylinder is not connected to an appliance, it should be stored in an outdoor well-ventilated space. Cylinders should always be placed upright and away from open flames or heat sources (>70°C). They are not affected by heat from the sun, so it is not necessary to cover them.

24. Is the new GoGas cylinder affected by exposure to sunlight or to high temperatures? What happens if the new GoGas cylinder is exposed to fire?

Like all gas cylinders, the GoGas LPG cylinder should not be exposed to temperatures above 70°C. The GoGas cylinder is not affected by sunlight and is only affected if it is near an open flame (less than 50 cm).

In any case, GoGas is equipped with a PRV system, which will be activated and prevent the pressure within the cylinder from exceeding safe limits. The plastic casing of the GoGas cylinder cannot withstand temperatures greater than 80°C, as it will start to melt and render the cylinder useless.

25. What should I do if the FLV system on the GoGas cylinder shuts down?

The FLV system on the GoGas cylinder is made so that it can sense increased gas flow (in the event of a leak) and can restrict it considerably. When you abruptly turn the knob on the gas appliance when connected to the cylinder, it is possible there will be a momentary surge of gas flow to the appliance, though there is no leak. If this should happen, you will not be able to turn on the gas appliance. If this happens, you must turn the appliance knobs to the off position and turn off the switch on the connection attachment (regulator or adaptor) you have placed on the GoGas cylinder valve so the green indicator faces up. Wait 2-3 minutes and then slowly turn on the switch on the attachment so the red indicator faces up. You should then slowly turn on the appliance knob.

26. If I run out of GoGas in the middle of cooking and the shops are closed, where can I get a replacement?

The GoGas LPG cylinders are available at select Shell, Avin and Cyclon petrol stations. These petrol stations operate all year round and are available to serve you at any time.

You can find the nearest outlet where GoGas cylinders are available on the Coral Gas site, or by phoning 800 11 90 600.

27. Do I need to have a back-up GoGas cylinder in case mine runs out while in use?

No, it’s not necessary. There are a great number of petrol stations open round the clock all over Greece where you can get prompt service. If you would like to have a cylinder delivered to your home, you can also contact the “Home Delivery” service at 800 11 90 600 which covers major cities during business hours.

28. Can I use the GoGas cylinder indoors?

The new GoGas LPG cylinder is filled with a mixture of butane and propane, which may be used indoors. Additionally, the GoGas cylinder itself ensures a high level of safety.

As when using any type of open flame, when using LPG devices you must make sure the space is well-ventilated so that exhaust fumes can escape and the oxygen that is burned can be replenished.
